Welcome everyone!
Here at the Lindsay Tempest Art School, all ages and abilities are welcome. The aim of this course is to inspire you. You can take what you learn here and launch into each media, applying the tips and tricks in ways you most enjoy. You can make your compositions as complex or as simple as you want, but I always recommend starting off by playing with each media, as shown in the introductions. With practice, you can build your skills to tackle more complex compositions, or just have fun and enjoy exploring the wonder of different effects you can create. Please feel free to download the materials list and the powerpoint document which gives examples and prompts to help you with your projects.
More about your Tutor
I live on a boat with my family and Moog the dog.
I have a BA in Fine Art Painting, am qualified in Mental Health and as a HE Tutor (Painting and Drawing).
Apart from teaching art to adults, traditionally I have sold my paintings to private clients, but I now offer services in illustration. With a strong leaning toward emotions and mental health, my work is diversely metaphorical.
I was shortlisted in the top 5 inaugural ‘Womankind’ Magazine Art and Illustration Awards in 2019.
Approach
My work is inspired by human feelings and experiences, and through the eyes of a woman. Each piece is inspired by a mood or situation and is then explored through initial pencil sketches. The final outcome is determined by the media best suited to the narrative. This can be a hand painted or a hand drawn piece which is then photographed.
Style
With my background in Fine Art Painting, my style is influenced by other narrative artists such a Paula Rego and Frida Kahlo, and I use traditional methods of drawing and painting to represent subject matter. I mainly use biro, acrylic paint and coloured pencils, but sometimes also use watercolour.
Awards
As I have launched as an illustrator in 2020, I hope to expand in this area.
